In November 2012 the British Mountain Guides will be hosting the international meeting of the IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations) in the Highlands of Scotland and in Aviemore. Representatives from over 20 countries from around the world will have the opportunity to experience the hospitality, mountains, and culture of the area as well as using the occasion to exchange views on guiding matters and co-operation.
From the first guiding association that was established in Chamonix France in 1821, followed by Switzerland some years later, Mountain Guides have continued to explore the great mountain ranges and landscapes of the world. The IFMGA, formed in 1964, is an international fraternity that has continued this heritage to the present day and the British Mountain Guides Association, members for over 30 years, are proud to be part of the IFMGA and hosting this event for the first time in Scotland.
Included in the IFMGA event, the BMG will also be hosting the 2012 International climbing competition of Mountain Guides at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, Ratho, Edinburgh. This will provide an opportunity for climbers from all parts of the globe to test their skills in this world class Scottish venue and enjoy the culture and sights that the city of Edinburgh is renowned for.
